COMMUNICATION/ ARTIFACTS

What does integrated communication mean?

Integrated Communication is an essential and important part of education. It is important that through your career you are communicating effectively- meaning all information is presented in a professional and easy way for people to understand. I believe I do have what it takes to communicate effectively. In the last 5 years of education I have demonstrated my communication skills in many different ways. I started with paper newsletters and transferred that into a digital newsletter through a digital platform called s'mores. Other applications I have used for communication include Classdojo, bitmoji classroom through google slides, and many other digital applications. One thing I have recognized through my teaching career is that most parents are always in a hurry or on the go. Our society is very busy, and as technology has grown, out society has adapted this into our everyday life. Now parents prefer electronic means of communication instead of paper that never makes it home, or gets lost. However, communication is not just about parent communication. I also use these digital tools to communicate with my students. I send my students assignments, announcements and schedules all through seesaw, class dojo and the bitmoji classroom.  Feel free to look below at the tools I most frequently use, and other examples where I have integrated communication.

Bitmoji Classroom

Bitmoji classrooms have been a booming trend in the 2020-21 school year. I followed along with this trend making my own bitmoji classroom. This year with virtual and in person learning, I have used this presentation as a way to keep my students, and myself organized. Both the students and parents have access to the bitmoji classroom, which is a way for me to communicate the daily schedule, announcements, zoom links and much more.

This communication tool also serves as a great place to house classroom tools for ease of use such as websites, classroom presentations, anchor charts and assignments. This tool can serve as a one stop shop which makes communicating so easy. Using this tool I am able to demonstrate how I can use my technology skills to communicate with others, and create engaging materials.  Throughout the school year I have been able to create many bitmoji classrooms where students can explore and investigate different lessons - getting the content in new and exciting ways.

Class Dojo

Classdojo has sevred as a wonderful communication tool to keep my student's parents informed of announcements and events going on at the school. This also is a great tool because it is accessible as an app which can be downloaded onto your phone. With this app being accessible through your phone this makes for a direct line of communication between educators and parents. This is not only a one way communication tool, this is a two way communication tool where parents can message their child's teacher as well.  Messaged can be sent back and forth, class stories can be created with picutres, website links and so much more can all be sent or displayed through this communication toon. I personally have enjoyed being able to integrate this tool into my classroom, because not only does this tool allow communication with parents, you can also communicate with the students. Each student has their own profile where they can earn points as reward throughout the day. This is an excellent motivational tool. This tool has so many different aspects to communicate and I have learned so much being able to use this tool.

  Research Proposal

Quantitative/Qualitative Artifact Critiques

Quantitative and Qualitative  Critiques

If you click on the research proposal on the right, this will take you to a very thorough investigation of how technology has effected our youth. I feel like this is a great example of how I can  communicate in an additional way, other than traditional messaging methods. A research proposal is a type of communication when published, can reach a variety and plethora of people. This type of communication also shows a research based thought process. Meaning, the communication is informed and based off of learned information.

Now that I have extensively reviewed both the quantitative and qualitative studies, I feel confident in being able to evaluate and find the significance in studies, and how to apply their purpose towards a research topic. Both of these artifacts contribute to my communication portion of my e-portfolio.

The Quantitative and Qualitative critiques were both part of an extensive study to determine what type of resources to use for research design. This shows how to evaluate information to best communicate during a research proposal. During the process of working with both quantitative and qualitative critiques, I am now able to properly determine the type of studies that should best be used for specific types of communication. It is important to be able to critically review different articles for research purposes.
